Dave Eastgate is an actor, stand-up comedian, writer and musician who hails from Queensland’s Gold Coast in and lives in Sydney, Australia.
Dave has written for and starred in two top rating ABC1 sketch comedy series’, The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting and Wednesday Night Fever where Dave was also the Musical Director of the show with his heavy metal group, Boner Contention, serving as the house band.
As well Dave has had roles in the feature film Crooked Business, AFI award winning Review with Myles Barlow (ABC1) and a stellar turn in ABC1’s family sit com smash hit, A Moody Christmas and it’s subsequent second series The Moodys. This year Dave will appear opposite Rhys Darby and Suzie Porter in Peter Helliar’s second season of It’s a Date and star in ABC’s new kung-fu comedy series,Maximum Choppage which is co-produced by Matchbox Pictures and NBC Universal.
No stranger to drama either, Dave has been seen in Channel 9’s Logie winning series Sea Patrol, Channel 7’s The Killing Field (where he played a drug dealing, serial killer suspect) and the up-coming ABC crime drama, Hiding.
Stand-Up Comedy and music, however, remain Dave’s staple and he continues to headline shows around Australia, N.Z, U.K, U.S, Singapore and even in the Middle East for the Australian Defense Force. In 2010 Dave was blessed to share the stage with the late Academy Award Winner, Robin Williams during his Australian tour and considers it a career highlight.
As well as club shows, sold out festival shows and supports for other notable touring internationals such as Arj Barker, Rich Fulcher, Jim Jefferies, Jeff Ross and Ross Noble, Dave has appeared as the guest comedian on Thursday Night Live (TEN), Ready Steady Cook (TEN), The X Factor Australia (SEVEN), The Beer Factor (NINE), The Full Brazilian (SBS) and the New Zealand Comedy Festival Musical Gala (TV2).
Dave’s background as a performer began as a child growing up in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, one of the top 5 most dangerous city’s in the world, where Dave’s Dad was stationed in the Australian Army. Dave’s Mum found a local performing arts school and he took to it like a child possesed! By 16 Dave was on the Gold Coast performing characters, stunts and music in the theme parks, theatre restaurants and comedy clubs of the famous Queensland resort town.
By 21 Dave was performing his own characters, stunts and music at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. Dave also toured as frontman for a Japanese punk band, performed Japanese stand-up comedy and made several TV and radio appearances in fluent Japanese, which can all be viewed at You Tube on the Eastgate Tube channel.
Dave returned from Japan in 2006 and now resides in Sydney between frequent interstate and overseas tours. His comedy rock band, Boner Contention, are set to release their debut album, Bad Specimen in October 2014.
